Welcoming Phillip Wilson: Riverina Community College’s New CEO

Riverina Community College is excited to welcome Phillip Wilson as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Phillip brings with him not only a wealth of professional experience but also a genuine passion for education, community, and creating opportunities that change lives.

For Phillip, stepping into the role is more than just a career move. It is a chance to contribute to a region he already holds close to his heart. After moving to the Riverina in 2017, he quickly came to value the warmth and connection of regional life. “I love the Riverina and the people I meet here every day,” Phillip shares. “There’s something very special about the way communities come together in this region.”

His journey into education started young, when he discovered the joy of helping others learn. Since then, Phillip has held leadership roles in schools and worked in RTOs across NSW.

When the opportunity to lead RCC came up, Phillip says it felt like a natural fit. “I love what the College does and how it’s supported by the community. I have led schools for decades, and I can now help people of all ages learn new and exciting skills.”

Since stepping into the role, Phillip has been struck by the culture of care he sees every day. “I’ve been overwhelmed with the welcome I’ve received, but quickly realised it isn’t just for me. It’s how everyone is treated. The staff here are great at their jobs, but they also care. That’s the perfect combination.”

As CEO, Phillip is eager to build on this foundation while making sure more people know about what RCC offers. “I think the College is the area’s best kept secret,” he says. “From the Art Factory to the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme, to the courses and staff, there is so much here to celebrate. I want to make sure the wider community recognises just how much RCC has to offer.”

Looking to the future, Phillip’s vision is ambitious but grounded in community need. “My hope is that we are supported so strongly that we’re swept off our feet designing and running new courses that meet the needs of the community,” he says. “I want people walking through our doors every day with ideas for what they’d like to learn, and for us to have the resources and teachers to help bring those ideas to life.”

Outside of work, Phillip enjoys combining creativity with craft, building timber toys while listening to 80’s music. It is a hobby that blends thinking, building, and relaxation, and one he is always happy to share.

His message to the community is simple: “Thank you for the warm welcome. If I haven’t met you yet, please drop in and introduce yourself. Maybe we can even chat about your favourite 80’s song!”

With Phillip at the helm, RCC is set to continue building on its strong legacy while exploring new opportunities to support the people and communities of the Riverina.
