Celebrating 15 Years of dedication: Mel Livermore’s journey at RCC

This year, Riverina Community College is proud to celebrate a remarkable milestone, Mel Livermore’s 15th anniversary as part of the RCC team.

Over the years, Mel has not only grown in her career but has also played an important role in shaping the College’s journey, adapting to industry changes, and helping create a culture of care, excellence, and community.

Mel began her career at RCC as a Hairdressing Trainer and Assessor, where she brought her professional skills, patience, and creativity to the classroom. From the very beginning, her focus was on helping students build confidence and succeed in their chosen career paths. Her passion for education and dedication to learners quickly saw her progress into the role of Hairdressing & Beauty Coordinator, where she supported both her students and fellow trainers.

Keen to take on new challenges, Mel later stepped into a shared Training Coordinator position. This role extended her impact across the entire College, coordinating a wide range of courses beyond hair and beauty. The experience proved invaluable, preparing her for her current position as Compliance Manager, where she ensures RCC continues to deliver high-quality training that meets the highest standards of the sector.

Reflecting on how much has changed during her 15 years, Mel is proud to have been part of RCC’s transformation.

We’ve moved from being fully face-to-face and paper-based to having a much stronger online presence. Our scope of delivery has expanded, and our team of trainers has grown in both size and expertise, which allows us to keep courses relevant and aligned with industry needs,” she explained.

Among her proudest moments, Mel recalls being nominated, and winning, the Leadership Excellence Award at the 2022 VERTO conference. For her, though, the highlights are just as often found in the everyday moments: supporting colleagues, watching learners thrive, and knowing her work has contributed to RCC’s growth.

When asked what she misses from the “early days,” Mel reflects warmly on the friendships she built with colleagues who have since moved on.

Their presence, energy, and support are deeply missed,” she said.

Yet she is equally excited about RCC’s future: innovating education delivery and finding new ways to support both trainers and learners.

Colleagues describe Mel as compassionate, reliable, and committed, with a sense of humour that brightens the workplace. One team member summed it up perfectly:

Working with Mel is a joy, she brings her love of lollies, a good chat, and plenty of laughter to every day, while inspiring those around her with her dedication and passion.”

Mel herself adds, with a laugh, that she’s also discovered she has more patience than she ever thought possible: “Apparently, it was just hiding for the first few decades of my life.”

Fifteen years is a remarkable milestone, and RCC is proud to celebrate Mel’s journey, from her early days as a trainer to her leadership in compliance today. Congratulations, Mel, and thank you for the impact you’ve made on our College. Here’s to 15 more years? Maybe?
